In a social media post on Friday morning (June 11), Reba McEntire cleared the air after her name was attached to a political barbecue fundraising event benefitting South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem. According to the flyer, Reba was listed as a special guest alongside a governors, senators, and a congressman for the barbecue, which will be held Sunday (June 13) and hosted by Mike and Sheila Ingram.

Emmy Award-winning CBS journalist Stephen Sanchez shared the invitation flyer on Twitter.

Her involvement concerned fans, who know that McEntire purposely distances herself from anything to do with politics.

In fact, during an interview on The View in 2017, Joy Behar asked what her fans would think if she stopped in the middle of a show to do a political rant.

“My fans would be shocked because I take it this way: They have paid their hard-earned money to come in there and fill a seat, you know, parking, getting something at the concession stand, going to eat before the concert. And I am there to entertain them.”

She continued saying that her goal is to just be able to help her fans forget about all the hard things they have to do and just have some fun. McEntire doesn’t want to ruin her fans’ evenings by getting political!

This has been the country legend’s policy for years and according to her social media post denouncing this reported appearance, she’s not looking to change that any time soon!

Her statement read, “Last night, an invitation to a political fundraiser with my name attached was sent out without my knowledge or permission. I had and have no plans to attend this event and had told the event organizers as such. Throughout my career, I have stated that I do not get involved in politics and that remains true today.

Governor Noem has not commented on social media about the fundraiser or why McEntire’s name was attached when she clearly is not and will not be involved.
