Reba’s highly anticipated new sitcom, Happy’s Place, is coming soon

The wait is almost over as Reba McEntire’s new sitcom, Happy’s Place, is set to premiere on NBC at 8 PM ET on Friday, October 18.

The country music icon’s original sitcom, Reba, was a huge hit, airing more than 100 episodes across six seasons.

Happy’s Place will follow McEntire as Bobbie, a woman who inherits her late father’s restaurant and learns about a half-sister she never knew she had.

It was previously announced that some of McEntire’s friends and collaborators, including former Reba co-star Melissa Peterman and McEntire’s real-life boyfriend, Rex Linn, would join the cast of the new project.

Steve Howey joins the cast of Happy’s Place

A new, exciting addition to the Happy’s Place family has just been announced. TVLine confirmed that actor Steve Howey will join the cast. While he is currently only slated for one episode, series creator Kevin Abbott hopes that Howey’s character will return later on.

Additionally, Abbott gave some insight into Howey’s unexpected new role:

“One of the arcs for [Peterman’s] character Gabby is that she thinks she wants to have a baby… and the Steve Howey character [Danny] becomes a potential sperm donor.”

Howey got his start as McEntire’s son-in-law Van Montgomery on Reba. Abbott excitedly confirmed the possibility of additional Reba actors joining this new endeavor. He said:

“We absolutely want to bring some of the old cast members on — and in very different roles than what they played on Reba. Steve’s our first one up, and we’re trying to figure out how to bring JoAnna [Garcia-Swisher] in. We only want to have the old cast in if we can really utilize them in a fun, impactful way.”

Reba McEntire releases the theme song for her new sitcom

On October 11th, McEntire dropped the official theme song for Happy’s Place, for which she provided the vocals. Additionally, she told USA Today that highly decorated singer/songwriter Carole King served as a co-writer. McEntire shared:

“I emailed her and told her the situation. She said that she’d love to help out. I hadn’t seen her in maybe four years, but we’re friends.”
