Jay DeMarcus of Rascal Flatts is mourning the loss of his beloved father and “musical hero.”
For those who didn’t know, Jay’s birth name is actually Stanley Wayne DeMarcus Jr. He is named after his father, Stanley Wayne DeMarcus, who went by the nickname “Wayno.”
In addition to carrying his father’s name, Jay also carries his father’s love for music.
After sharing the news that Wayno passed away on Thursday (October 29), Jay explained how his father encouraged him to follow his musical dreams:
“I could never explain in just a few words how important the musical bond was that we shared-it meant everything to me,” Jay wrote. “He taught me how to play, pushed me to be the best I could be, and I could not be more grateful for the time spent with him on the stage, and off.“
Even though Jay is in mourning, he finds comfort in the memories he made with his dad. He shared some of those memories with his post, as he included photos of him and his dad throughout his life:
“I have a lifetime of memories that will now be my comfort, as I face this life now without him,” Jay said. “Rest In Peace my precious Dad, I was always proud to be called your son, and I will miss you forever. Enjoy Heaven, you’ve earned it…“

Jay’s wife, Allison, also paid tribute to Wayno on social media.
She wrote, “Jay’s daddy, Wayne-O, left an incredible mark on everyone he encountered. We are thankful for the outpouring of love from everyone during this time of loss for Jay and our entire family.”
