Country singer Noah Thompson was named the winner of American Idol on Sunday night (May 22). The subsequent days have been a whirlwind for the young Kentuckian, who only auditioned for the show because a friend of his signed him up for it.
Thompson reflected on his big win in a post on social media, writing:
“Thank you all for giving me this opportunity, thank you for everyone who voted, thank you guys so much for everything!! I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you all so thank you guys so so much. I’m looking forward to continuing this journey and seeing where this thing goes. Love all of you all.”

After he won Idol, Thompson flew to New York City to appear on various talk shows. During his interview with Good Morning America, he shared what he plans to do next:
“I want to see my family and just kind of let this settle in, you know what I mean?” he said. “It’s going to be wild. I’m going to try to just stick to, you know, staying in the house for a little bit.”
To add to the excitement, Thompson’s debut single is making a serious impact on the charts. The song, titled “One Day Tonight,” reached the #1 spot on the iTunes country chart. It also reached the #1 spot on iTunes’ all-genre chart.
“You all are awesome!!” Thompson wrote on Instagram in a post celebrating his single’s success. “One day Tonight is number 1 on #itunes charts for #allgenres and also #countrygenre…keep it climbing y’all, thank you guys…”
