The Jacksonville Jaguars Player Was Baptized Hours Before Playing Against Seattle Seahawks
On Sunday, October 12, the Jacksonville Jaguars played against the Seattle Seahawks at the Everbank Stadium in Jacksonville, Florida.
While the Jaguars lost to the Seahawks, 12-20, there was a different kind of victory that occurred hours before the game.
Travis Hunter, a 22-year-old rookie on the Jaguars who plays as wide receiver and defensive back, was baptized.
Now, he is another prominent Christian on the Jacksonville Jaguars, joining quarterback Trevor Lawrence in his profession of faith.

Standing in a baptismal trough at Celebration Church in Jacksonville, Florida, Travis Hunter was all smiles.
Beside him were Tim Timberlake and Jen Timberlake, senior pastors of Celebration Church.
“It took a lot to get to this moment,” Tim said.
Responding, before lowering into the water, Travis said, “Yeah, it did.”
Asked if he had accepted Jesus Christ as his savior, Travis replied, “Yes.”
Tim then took Travis’ hands and placed them over his mouth and nose, saying, “By your confession, we baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.”
Lowering him into the water, they then brought him back up to the sound of applause from the congregants who were present.
Tim and Jen then prayed over Travis, who left shortly after to play football against the Seahawks.
Speaking with ESPN, Travis said, “It’s Sunday. It’s God’s day. I’ve been planning to go get baptized for a minute. I changed my life over to become a better man.”
While in college, Travis was coached by Deion Sanders at both Jackson State and University of Colorado at Boulder. He attributes Deion with having a Christian influence in his life.
Amid all the success Travis has seen in football, including winning the Heisman Trophy in 2024, Travis said of his baptism, “It means a lot. I’m becoming a better man and leaving my old self and starting a new chapter.”

On October 7, Travis shared the Bible verse Matthew 7:8 on social media with a video of a miraculous catch in his game against the Kansas City Chiefs, which reads: “For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.”

Watch Travis Hunter’s old college coach, Deion Sanders, aka “Prime Time,” talk about how he came to faith in Jesus after a life of “kissing Hell.”
He added, “I’ve trusted people, places, and things, and every last one of them have somehow, someway or another, let me down, but not Jesus.”
