Documents That Were Previously Available Have Since Been Taken Down
On Dec. 14, Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, photographer and film producer Michele Singer Reiner, 70, were found dead in their home in Brentwood, California.
They were allegedly killed by their son, Nick Reiner, who is now charged with two counts of First Degree Murder.
Nick appeared in court on Dec. 17, where he was ordered to be held in jail without bond.
While documents from the County of Los Angeles Medical Examiner were initially released as they were produced, they have since been sealed in compliance with a court order.
This court order was initiated by the Los Angeles Police Department, according to the Medical Examiner’s office.
Statement On The Sealed Documents
On Monday, Dec. 29, the Medical Examiner released a statement regarding the status of its documents pertaining to the deaths Rob and Michele Reiner.
According to the Medical Examiner, a court order was received on Dec. 24, as initiated by the LAPD, placing the files on the Reiner deaths under a “security hold.”
“While the cause and manner of death were previously released on these cases, due to the court order, the information is no longer available,” writes the Medical Examiner. “No other case information or records, including the Medical Examiner report, can be released or posted on the website until further notice.”
The Medical Examiner goes on to write, “The Department understands the public’s interest in these cases and remains committed to transparency when possible. Information will be made available once the court order is lifted.”
While the Medical Examiner reports would reveal autopsy findings, the aforementioned death certificates were previously released, and do include information on their deaths.

In both documents, it can be seen that the immediate cause of death is listed as “multiple sharp force injuries,” with the interval between the onset of the incident and death being reported as occurring within “minutes.”
No other significant conditions are cited as contributing to their deaths.
The death certificates go on to allege that the injury occurred “with knife, by another.”
While the accused, Nick Reiner, is known to have a history with drug addiction — which was dramatized in a film he co-wrote that was directed by his father, titled Being Charlie (2015) — a motive for the killing has not been articulated by prosecution ahead of the pending murder trial.
Nick Reiner is to be arraigned in court on Jan. 7, 2026.
