The fate of Yellowstone was revealed last week with Paramount Network announcing that its current fifth season will be its last. While viewers await the broadcast of the last episodes, one of the show’s stars, Luke Grimes, shared what can be expected.
In a new interview with Entertainment Tonight, Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce Dutton on the modern-day western, shared that Yellowstone‘s long-running theme will be the force behind the show’s final episodes.
“Love and family and serve your tribe, your people — that’s a huge theme in the show,” Grimes said before referencing his own character. “With Kayce, he has a hard time choosing his relationship with his father versus his relationship with his wife and son. I think it’s because it all really matters and it matters to all of the characters.”

The result is “really juicy drama” as everyone fights “for their team,” according to Grimes.
“There’s no right team or wrong team, it’s just a bunch of people trying to figure out how to do what’s best for their own.”
Paramount announced the end of Yellowstone after months of speculation about the show’s future and rumors of behind-the-scenes drama.
Yellowstone‘s end comes at the peak of its popularity and success as it shattered viewing records with its season five premiere earlier this year. But, fans of the franchise can be consoled knowing that another sequel is in the works.
“Yellowstone has been the cornerstone on which we have launched an entire universe of global hits – from 1883 to Tulsa King, and I am confident our Yellowstone sequel will be another big hit, thanks to the brilliant creative mind of Taylor Sheridan and our incredible casts who bring these shows to life,” said Chris McCarthy, president & CEO of Showtime and MTV Entertainment Studios.
“The Dutton story continues, picking up where Yellowstone leaves off in another epic tale. We are thrilled to bring this new journey to audiences around the world,” teased David Glasser, CEO of 101 Studios.
Yellowstone premiered in 2018 and tells the story of the Dutton family, owners of the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch, and their conflicts with land developers, a bordering Indian reservation and Yellowstone National Park.
The television drama’s first season got off to a rocky start with viewers, but subsequent seasons only boosted the show’s popularity and made it one of the most successful scripted shows on tv.
