Eight months after it was released as a single, Carly Pearce and Lee Brice‘s “I Hope You’re Happy Now” is the #1 song on the Country Airplay chart.

Pearce celebrated the song’s ascent to the chart’s top spot in a post on Instagram. She shared a throwback picture of her and Brice at CMA Fest in 2018, saying it was crazy to think how far they had come in just two years:

“Life is crazy, y’all,” Pearce said. “Life takes you places you never thought & makes the most beautiful moments. Thank you @leebrice for lending your incredible voice to this song.”

“I Hope You’re Happy Now” is Pearce’s second chart-topper, with her first being 2017’s “Every Little Thing.” It’s the sixth chart-topping single for Brice, with his previous #1 songs being “Rumor,” “I Don’t Dance,” “I Drive Your Truck,” “Hard to Love,” and “A Woman Like You.”

Another country artist is also celebrating the success of “I Hope You’re Happy Now,” and that artist is Luke Combs.

Few people know this, but Combs actually co-wrote “I Hope You’re Happy Now” with Pearce, Randy Montana, and Jonathan Singleton. Combs was originally supposed to be the featured male artist on the song, but he stepped down. That’s when Pearce reached out to Brice and asked if he’d like to be her collaborator.

Now that “I Hope You’re Happy Now” has gone to #1, it signals a big “first” in Combs’ career. Even though he has eight chart-topping singles as an artist, this marks the first time he has ever earned a #1 single as only a songwriter.

Combs celebrated the accomplishment on Instagram, writing:

Songwriting is one of the things that made me fall in love with country music, so I’m pumped to have written this song (“I Hope You’re Happy Now”) with @carlypearce and it be my first No. 1 as just a songwriter.”

Although Combs didn’t record “I Hope You’re Happy Now” with Pearce, he did treat fans to a performance of the song on TikTok. Check out his performance below along with Pearce and Brice’s official music video.

Congratulations to Pearce, Brice, Combs, and all who helped make “I Hope You’re Happy Now” the #1 song in country music!
