Following her death, her family, friends, and fans shared tributes to the Coal Miner’s Daughter. Her granddaughter, Tayla, has been vocal about her grief losing her beloved “Memaw.” Shortly after the announcement of Loretta’s death, Tayla shared a photo of her and her Memaw cheek to cheek.
“Gettin to meet Jesus was something that brought her so much joy and comfort,” she wrote. “This loss. This grief. We all feel it. You feel it like I do. Like the family. You are family. To her you were her family for so very long. She’s wasn’t just ours. She was yours too. As sad as we are- we are so thankful she is home with her Father in Heaven. Her Mommy & Daddy. Her children past. Her husband. So many that have gone before her. Forever changed.”
In honor of what would be her 91st birthday, Tayla shared a quick video of Loretta laughing it up while getting her makeup done for her 85th birthday party.
Alongside her video, Tayla wrote, “Her first birthday in Heaven. What a glorious day it must be there! I sing her songs & try to capture anything that resembles her essence when I speak her name. She is untouchable. Nobody can really put into words the wisdom & genius who was Loretta Lynn.”
She continued, “The way just gossiping with her was an art form. The way she could look you in the eyes and say, ‘It doesn’t matter what anybody else thinks or knows Tayla, we know. We know,’ and that be the thing-the thing that holds you together.”
Tayla also shared some never-before-heard memories:
“Once we were 19 and 65 (something like that) and we laughed for 3 hours straight over the dumbest joke. Just us upstairs at her house in Nashville. She made me go get chicken pot pies from KFC & she ate all 5 of them in a few hours 😂 This is a nothing sentence but to me it was everything.”
Loretta’s granddaughter also wrote about Loretta’s love for Jesus.
“She always told me to read my Bible. Said she learned to read by reading her Bible. She made loving Jesus cool. Had she not made it cool to love God, would I love him so deeply? Isn’t that everything? The love of our Lord. She left this world knowing where she was going. She filled her life with Him. That’s the lesson I think we all want to leave-we taught someone somewhere that He is everything.”
She ended the post by saying, “Happy Birthday Memaw.”
We know that her Memaw is looking down on her with pride. See Tayla’s post below.
