Levi Wright, 3-year-old son of rodeo star Spencer Wright and his wife Kallie, passed away Sunday (June 2) following a tragic accident on the family’s ranch.
Three days after the death of her son, Kallie Wright shared a heartfelt and candid message about the accident that took Levi’s life and her own regrets about that day.
News initially broke about Levi’s accident on May 23, two days after the toddler drove his toy tractor into a creek on the family’s Utah property. Reports indicate that emergency crews found Levi unresponsive roughly a mile from where he entered the creek.
Levi was airlifted to the hospital, where he remained in ICU until his family made the difficult decision to remove him from life support on June 2.
“After several sleepless nights, lots of research, multiple conversations with the world’s best neurologists & millions of prayers we are here in the face of our biggest fear,” Kallie Wright wrote at the time. “Here soon I’ll climb into bed with my baby and hold him as he falls asleep for the last time on this earth. I find comfort in knowing he will be restored to the perfect little boy he was & have the ability to do all the things he loves!”
Kallie returned to social media following Levi’s passing to share more insight into the events that led to Levi’s tragic accident.
“There is a creek that runs through our 24 acre [sic] property and separates our house from Grandma and Grandpa’s, through that creek is a road made of concrete,” Kallie explained, adding that her kids have taken that route safely “a million times.”
She added that water rarely runs over the concrete road and can change quickly, just as it had the day of Levi’s accident. While Levi was taking a path that was familiar to him, this time the water was “at its peak” and pushed Levi’s tractor into the creek as he crossed.
“He asked me to ride his tractor and I explained that grandma wasn’t home, he shouldn’t drive through the creek or the road and just to ride around the house. As he drove off, I ran back in the house,” Kallie said. “That’s a decision that will haunt me for the rest of my life. In that moment he was my responsibility alone.”
The heartbroken mother added that her decision not to follow Levi that day will cause her to “lose sleep over this for eternity.”
“…but with this I know 3 things to be true. 1. I am not a perfect mom but I am a good mom. 2. My little boy loved me with all he had. 3. Never say never because it only takes seconds and it can happen to you too. I pray anyone who judges me or has hurtful words to say never finds themself on the receiving end of a nightmare like this,” she concluded.
