Lay’s Pays Homage To The Farmers Of America With Super Bowl Commercial
Legacy potato chip brand Lay’s has delivered a Super Bowl LX commercial that will tug at the heartstrings of Americans everywhere. Titled “Last Harvest,” the ad features a father preparing to retire and pass down the family potato farm.
Lay’s was founded in 1932 by Herman W. Lay, who got his start by selling chips from his car in Nashville, Tennessee. Now, the salty snack is a staple of Super Bowl celebrations annually.
The new commercial opens with the aging father telling his daughter, “So I’ve been thinking, it might be time to hang it up.” She encourages him to join her in working the fields one last time, “together.” Quickly, it cuts to scenes of the daughter and the family dog growing up on the farm through the years.

While a 60-second ad appeared during the main Super Bowl broadcast, Lay’s shared an extended version of the commercial online, revealing more of the sentimental story. Set to Keane’s “Somewhere Only We Know,” we see parallel pivotal moments of the father-daughter duo throughout the years.
From teaching the young girl how to drive the tractor, paint the barn, and harvest the crops, the piece emphasizes the importance of family, hard work, and legacy.
Finally, the daughter, in her adult years, tells her father she needs his help with “one more thing.” The barn doors slide open to reveal a surprise retirement party for the man. Later, as they sit on the porch reminiscing on the night, he hands her the keys to the property and says, “It’s your farm now.”
