Lauren Alaina Is Honoring Her Late Father In A Very Special Way
Last summer, Lauren Alaina shared the heartbreaking news that her father, J.J. Suddeth, had suddenly passed away. Since then, the American Idol alum has kept that part of her life mostly private as she and her family continue to navigate their loss.
Over the past few months though, Lauren has found ways to honor her father’s memory in every way that she can. She has shared sweet tributes, including a special video of her and him singing a worship song together years ago.

The “Ladies In The ’90s” Singer Says That She Is Playing Guitar Again For Her Father
In a video posted to her Instagram page, Lauren Alaina shared a story with her fans about why she has decided to pick up a guitar again.
Sitting on her tour bus with an acoustic guitar in hand, she explained that when she was little, her father always wanted her to learn how to play. While she would occasionally play along with him, it wasn’t something she fully committed to until now.
“My daddy grew up playing the banjo and he played guitar,” she began. “And he always tried to get me to sit down long enough to play with him and I would play with him sometimes but I never really stuck to it. [When] my brother and I went to clean out his house we each took one of his guitars and I said I’m gonna start practicing and playing…so, here I am.
Lauren then began singing her new song “Those Kind of Women” as she strummed the guitar.
This song holds a special meaning to Lauren, not just because it’s her latest single. She actually revealed that she was pregnant in the music video for the track, which was released last month.
Lauren and her husband Cam Arnold are expecting their first child together, a baby girl. In a recent interview with PEOPLE, Lauren shared that she sees her pregnancy as a gift from her father in heaven.
“I do think that my dad passed away and got up in heaven and was like, ‘Hey, we got to work something out down there to send the family something good.’ And it has been such an unexpected blessing,” she said. “We obviously still talk about and are dealing with the grief of my dad, but this baby has healed a lot of that for us … like it’s a little piece of my dad that will live on.”
