Season 2 of Landman Is Just Getting Going

It’s hard to imagine a time where we weren’t sitting down on a Sunday to watch one of Taylor Sheridan’s TV shows. Luckily, Landman is in full swing and we won’t have to think about that impending reality for a few more weeks!

On Sunday, December 14, Landman, premiered the 5th episode of Season 2, titled “Pirate Dinner.” This article contains spoilers from the episode.

If you need a refresher on what has happened last episode, check out our Episode 4 recap here.

In Episode 5, Tommy Norris’ (Billy Bob Thornton) dad, played by the legendary Sam Elliott, has officially moved in. If you think a change in scenery has changed his interest in the sunrise and sunset, you’d be wrong. We first see him in the backyard enjoying the gorgeous sunrise.

Lawyer Nate, who also lives at the Norris house, asks Tommy how long his dad T.L. will be living with them. Every the wordsmith, Tommy replies, “‘Til he dies.”

Nate reminds him that he is the president of M-Tex now and should really be in Fort Worth handling business and to hire a new Landman to manage all the drilling on site.

Angela (Ali Larter) then asks TL what he would want to have as his last meal on Earth. Questioning why he would have to answer this question, TL asks her, “Do you know something I don’t?” She assures him he is safe at their home before he answered with an array of seafood.

Since Angela loves a theme, she decided to cook TL his most-desired meal and makes it a pirate theme, hence the title of the episode, “The Pirate Dinner.” Tommy warns his father about the drama that usually ensues during their themed dinners, but TL is game.

After the theme is established, Nate gives Tommy invoices to give to Cooper for all the drilling that has taken place on his new land. Tommy wonders why they are being sent to his home, rather than Cooper’s.

Ariana and Cooper wake up in bed together and talk about their future. Cooper mentions wanting to have more kids, but Ariana tells him she is Catholic and won’t have any more kids if she isn’t married. She tells him that she won’t accept a proposal from him before asking her dad for her hand in marriage. The problem is, her family lives in Corpus Christi, which is about a seven hour drive.

Tommy and Cooper meet up at The Patch Cafe for breakfast, where Cooper tells him that he is going to propose. Tommy is skeptical about Cooper’s girl problems so he moved on to Cooper’s business problems, mainly his loan with Sonrisa, Danny Morrell’s company.

Tommy rattles off some insane numbers and a time frame for all the money and drilling, which Cooper clearly doesn’t understand. Tommy says M-Tex will buy off Cooper’s loan so Cooper won’t be on him anymore. But in return, M-Tex will hire him to work off his loan.

Later in the episode, Cooper does drive to Ariana’s dad’s house and ends up receiving his blessing to propose to her.

Little, More Like Big, Fires Everywhere

Tommy gets a call from his lawyers Rebecca and Nate, who finally tell him about the truck crash that took place in the beginning of Episode 4. He gets upset that he wasn’t informed right away, but Nate reminds him that he is the president of the company, and they never told Monty anything until there was more information. Tommy tells Nate that he is the President, but he is still running operations in West Texas, so he has to be in the know at all times.

Tommy goes to the crash site to speak with the Sheriff about the crash, but the Sheriff doesn’t even mention the H2S leak that killed a bunch of hunters and left one of their own blind in the hospital. Tommy find this out just minutes later when he calls Dale to get more info.

The show then takes us to the retirement home where Angela and Ainsley volunteer, and the residents are throwing Angela a birthday party, even though it is nowhere near her birthday. The residents gift her some naughty toys, which

Sam Elliott Shares Scene With 1883 Co-Stars’ Daughter

Once TL decides he wants to go inside, all the doors are locked and he calls Tommy to figure out how to get back in. He tells his dad where the spare key is hidden in the backyard. During their conversation, Tommy tells to watch The View, but TL has never heard of it.

“What’s The View?” he asks his son.

“A bunch of pissed off millionaires bitching about how much they hate millionaires and Trump and men, and you and me, and everybody they gotta be up their ass about. It’s pretty funny,” Tommy says.

As most fans know, Sam Elliott starred in the Taylor Sheridan series 1883, which was the first prequel in the Yellowstone franchise. He starred alongside Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, the first generation of the Dutton family that we meet.

TL goes to retrieve the hidden and he meets next door neighbor, and Ainsley’s friend, Shelby, played by Audrey McGraw, Tim and Faith’s youngest daughter.

Having never seen this man before, Shelby asks him who he is. They share a sweet conversation about how incredible his voice is, and then they say goodbye.

This interaction may have been short and not a huge moment in the Landman saga, but as fans of anything Sam Elliott, it was so cool to watch him act with his former co-stars’ daughter!

Tommy And Morrell Finally Address Their Season One Interaction

As one of the many fires Tommy has to put out, he goes to Morrell’s office to confront him about his business with Cooper. But while he’s there, he learns that Morrell knows all about M-Tex’s debts and the impending lawsuit if they don’t start drilling at the offshore site.

We also learn that Cami Miller’s (Demi Moore) name is on all the documents, so M-Tex’s angle of saying that they are transitioning the company isn’t valid since on paper, Cami is has been an owner the entire time.

Knowing Morrell is really a cartel boss who is laundering his money in the oil financing business, Tommy finally brings up their bloody interaction during Season 1.

Tommy reminds him of the interaction, where Tommy had a nail in his thigh and he watched Morrell kill a man right in front of him. FINALLY! We were beginning to imagine their Season One interaction at this point.

The Episode Finally Ends On A Good Note…For Now

When Tommy finally returns home, he sees his dining room transformed into another theme dinner with everyone is their pirate best. When he sees Angela’s getup, he bursts into laughter. Turns out, a theme is fun!

Episode 5 ends with everyone having a grand ol’ time at the pirate-themed dinner, even Tommy. The fun likely won’t last for long, seeing as Episode 6 looks like a doozy. See the trailer below.

Since there were 10 episodes in Season One, we imagine this season will be the same, meaning we are halfway through! Landman has compiled a 15-minute video of the “must-see” moments of the season.
