On Friday, February 17, the country music world was in shock to learn the news of songwriter Kyle Jacobs’ passing. He’s responsible for many Top 10 country hits, and he was also the husband of country singer – and former American Idol star – Kellie Pickler.

Jacobs moved to Nashville in the late 1990s and began working as a songwriter, penning hits such as Garth Brooks’ “More Than a Memory” and “Still” recorded by Tim McGraw. He has also played alongside many country artists including Brooks and Dunn, Kelly Clarkson, and Wynonna Judd. He has also worked as a producer on projects for Kellie Pickler, Clay Walker, and Craig Morgan, just to name a few.
Pickler told authorities that when she woke up she couldn’t find her husband. She and her assistant attempted to open a door to an upstairs bedroom/office. When they were unable to open it, they called police.
The Nashville Police Department said in a statement that the Department of Emergency Communications was dispatched to a home on Friday (February 17) at 1:21 p.m. CST. Upon arrival, authorities found Jacobs “deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.”
The news of his passin came as such a shock to friends and fans, especially after seeing his last social media posts, one made just one day before his death. He was celebrating Lee Brice’s 2020 album Hey World going Platinum.
He wrote, “Platinum?! SWEEEET!!! An amazing crew of incredibly talented peeps put this one together…Deeply honored to be a creative part of it…Thank you Jesus!!!”

Jacobs also had several brand-new songs just released, according to his publisher’s Instagram account.
Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Kellie, at this time.
