Korn has teamed up with artist and rapper, YelaWolf to deliver a cover of The Charlie Daniels Band’s “The Devil Went Down to Georgia,” just weeks after the country icon’s death.

The release came shortly after the band posted a mysterious photo on their Instagram, which fans later realized was the song title, only scrambled.

The band’s cover of the song released on July 28, 2020, and sounds pretty impressive despite the dramatic genre switch.

Korn made the song available through their website where they shared a short message of what inspired them to release their version:

“We’re very excited to bring you our cover of the late, great Charlie Daniels’ infamous track, ‘The Devil Went Down To Georgia.’ Charlie left a musical legacy that goes beyond just one genre, and we want to honor his talent and influence with our own rendition of his song. It is available exclusively via Bandcamp, where 100% of all proceeds are being donated to the non-profit organization, Awakening Youth. Special thanks to our boy Yelawolf for jumping on the track with us.”

The track finds Korn recreating the infamous fiddle duel with heavily-distorted guitars, which adds to the somewhat ominous tale that the song tells. Frontman Jonathan Davis and Yelawolf deliver the story of the Devil and Johnny with Davis’ devilish vocals dramatically cutting through the guitars and drums.

Since forming, Korn has sold 40 million albums worldwide, and collected 2 Grammys. Fans can listen or purchase their cover of the song here.
