Kenny shared a teaser of the new track on his Instagram page.
“When I heard ‘Take Her Home,’ I just laughed. It was everything life is made of in less than four minutes. It’s true, honest and all the stuff that’s easy to forget. All those details and little moments? That’s what makes these kinds of life changes what they are. And it’s funny, no matter what stage you’re in, you really are always scared. That’s how you know it’s gonna be worth it.”

What is Kenny Chesney’s new song about?
“Take Her Home” narrates the tale of a man and woman who encounter each other at a bar and subsequently share significant life moments. After their serendipitous meeting in a downtown bar, the pair falls in love and gears up for the next stage of their relationship. With a “stuffed truck sittin’ in the driveway,” he reassures her that she has “nothin’ to worry about,” signaling his intention to “Take Her Home” to meet his family.
“And take her home, fall in love
Thank the good Lord up above
That He sent one down into your arms
And put a chain around your raised hell heart
You try to play it cool walkin’ through the door
But you’re smilin’ like a fool ’cause you can’t wait for them
Down the road memories you’re bound to make
And you will one day
Take her home”
The meaning of “Take Her Home” evolves with each verse, reaching its conclusion as the couple joyfully welcomes a baby girl into the world. With a car seat in the back, they embark on a journey, “creepin’ down the interstate,” ready to “take her home.”
A melody that captures the essence of life’s significant moments
The native of East Tennessee expressed a genuine connection to the song, citing the everyday occurrences of people living through these moments.
“It’s amazing how simple figuring life out can be,” the singer shared. “I look around, and I see people in every state of this song every day. It’s part of the miracle of being alive. Even when it’s not happening to you, it’s happening to someone you love – whether your friend, a brother or sister, co-worker – and that feeling comes right back. I can’t wait to hear people singing this one back to us, because it’s going to be one of those moments. I just know.”
The emotional ballad was co-written by Zach Abend, HARDY, and Hunter Phelps. When the demo fell in his lap, Chesney knew he had to record it.
“Take Her Home” is the first taste of new music from Chesney since 2022’s “Beer With My Friends” featuring Old Dominion. Before that, he released his latest full-length project, Here And Now, in 2020.
Having more than 40 “Top 10” singles on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts, 32 of which have reached number one, Chesney has a knack for selecting songs that resonate with people. Examples like “The Good Stuff,” “Anything But Mine,” and “Don’t Blink” showcase this, and “Take Her Home” continues in the same vein.
