Kenny’s Surprise For Detroit

Back in 2016, country star Kenny Chesney performed during a concert in Detroit. He decided to surprise the audience with a special guest, who also just so happened to be a hometown boy.

Chesney’s special guest was none other than Kid Rock!

As you’d expect, the crowd went nuts when Rock made his way onto the stage. He and Chesney kicked things off by performing a duet rendition of Rock’s 1999 single, “Cowboy.” After finishing that song, the duo shifted gears to sing a classic country tune made famous by David Allan Coe.

Reviving a Country Classic

Of course, the song we’re talking about is “You Never Even Called Me by My Name.” Coe released the track in 1975. On top of becoming Coe’s signature song, “You Never Even Called Me by My Name” is considered to be a country music staple to this day.

The excitement in the audience at Chesney’s show was at an all-time show when he and Rock started singing “You Never Even Called Me by My Name.” One video filmed during the concert captured the crowd singing along with the duo at the top of their lungs.

To put it simply, the energy in the room was palpable. So palpable, in fact, you’ll be able to feel it when you watch the video of Rock and Chesney’s duet.

Is it any surprise why the audience was so hyped about the duet? It had to be such a cool thing to witness!
