Kelly Clarkson Shares Thoughts About Getting Married Again Following Divorce

It’s been three years since Kelly Clarkson filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock, putting and end to their 7-year marriage. In a recent podcast interview, the American Idol winner opened up about the possibility of getting married again.

Kelly Clarkson appeared on Glennon Doyle’s “We Can Do Hard Things” podcast recently and shared that her ego is to blame for her staying in her marriage as long as she did.

“I’m like, ‘I can do this. I can handle so much.’ My ego is like, ‘I can control my actions. I can control my reactions. I can do this and I can reach this person and I can get through,'” explained Clarkson. “It becomes a little bit of your ego that gets in the way.”

Clarkson, 41, said that her relationship with Blackstock was the first real adult relationship she’d ever had.

“I literally was like basically single until like 30. I just mean like, real relationships, it’s really only him,” she said. “I’m pretty good at rocking life like a loner.”

Kelly Clarkson admits that being single again is “freeing” and she is in no hurry to get into another relationship.

In fact, Clarkson isn’t so sure that she would consider getting married again, saying that marriage is “beautiful,” but may not be for everyone. If Kelly does decide to be in another relationship in the future, she said it’s important to her for that person to appreciate her for who she is.

“And honestly, I’m a firework and I’m okay with that. But, I’m very spontaneous and I’m very communicative and I’m very, I’m just very, any word that can go with very, I’m generally that,” Clarkson said. “I’m a walking empath. I’m just very. So I think it’s got to be somebody that can not, I don’t want to say the word handle that. I mean, I think somebody that prizes that, that thinks that’s cool.”

Kelly Clarkson’s interview comes ahead of the upcoming release of her 10th studio album, Chemistry.

Set to be released June 23, Chemistry was a project three years in the making. The album was inspired by Clarkson’s divorce and helped Kelly deal with the heartbreaking split.

“This album is definitely the arc of an entire relationship. That whole relationship shouldn’t be brought down to one thing. There’s the good, the bad and the ugly kind of thing going on. Chemistry can be a really amazing, sexy, cool, fun thing, but it can also be very bad for you. So that’s why I named it Chemistry, I thought it was the perfect title to describe the entire album,” Kelly shared.
