Kelly Clarkson shared her personal journey with an early diabetes diagnosis as she embarked on her weight loss transformation.
The candid conversation unfolded on the set of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show, during a discussion with special guest Kevin James. The renowned comedian and actor took a moment to compliment Clarkson on her remarkable appearance saying she looked “great,” sparking a meaningful exchange about health and well-being.
Clarkson delved into the details of her diabetes diagnosis, shedding light on the challenges she faced and the motivation that fueled her commitment to achieving a healthier lifestyle.
“Well, I was told I was pre-diabetic. That was literally what happened,” Clarkson said. “I was a tiny bit overweight. But I wasn’t shocked by it. They were like, ‘You’re pre-diabetic. You’re right on the borderline.’ I was like, ‘But I’m not there yet.’ Then I waited two years…I was like, ‘OK I’ll do something about it.’”
Their conversation not only provided insights into Clarkson’s resilience but also emphasized the importance of open conversations around health on her talk show.

Recently relocating her hit talk show from L.A. to N.Y.C., she told PEOPLE, “I just can’t stay here anymore for my mental health; for me and my kids. We need a fresh start. They weren’t doing well either.”

Living in the Big Apple means a lot more daily walking for Clarkson.
“Walking in the city is quite the workout,” Clarkson remarked. “I woke up the other day and I was like, ‘What did I do?’” implying how sore her body felt.
Clarkson also elaborated on how she started incorporating the use of infrared saunas and a cold plunge into her routine.
When it comes to her diet, Clarkson mentioned that she maintains a “healthy mix” and hasn’t completely eliminated meat products from her meals.
“I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor — a couple years, I didn’t. And 90% of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world!”
