Kelly Clarkson is taking it one day at a time as she focuses on supporting her kids after the death of their father, Brandon Blackstock.
On January 10, Kelly took part in a Q&A that was uploaded to The Kelly Clarkson Show YouTube channel.
At one point, she was asked what she does every day that brings her joy. Kelly’s answer was sweet and simple, and it also involved her two children, son Remington, and daughter River.
“Snuggle,” Kelly replied. “My kids, they’re 9 and 11. Kind of that special little fun stage where they can wipe their own behinds, but they’re still small enough to, like, love cuddling and love snuggles.”
Since Brandon’s passing, Kelly has mostly stayed quiet about how she and her family are coping. This was the first time she opened up about how her kids are doing after the loss.
“There’s been a lot for our family recently, and so I have allowed my kids to sleep with me quite a bit,” Kelly continued. “It’s my two dogs, my two kids and me. It’s a lot,” she added with a laugh. “It’s been really special, though, because… the conversations you have during that time are pretty cute. So that’s probably my favorite time of day.”
Back in September, Reba McEntire, who was Brandon’s stepmother, also shared a brief update on how his children were doing. Reba was married to Brandon’s father, Narvel Blackstock, from 1989 to 2015.
Reba was walking the red carpet at the Primetime Emmy Awards when she spoke about how his family is holding up after a reporter offered their condolences.
“The kids are doing well,” Reba said. “They are all bonding together and hanging out with each other, and taking it one day at a time. We know God’s got this.”
News of Brandon’s passing at the age of 48 was shared by his family back in August. It was revealed that he had been privately battling cancer for three years.
After his death, Kelly stepped away from the spotlight and returned to her daytime talk show a month later. Since then, she hasn’t spoken directly about Brandon’s death.
Kelly and Brandon were married for nearly seven years before she filed for divorce in 2020.
