Four months after she seemingly suddenly filed for divorce, Kelly Clarkson is opening up about how her children are handling it.

Back in June, Clarkson filed for divorce from Brandon Blackstock, her husband of seven years and father of her children River and Remington. Blackstock has two children from a previous relationship, Savannah and Seth, that Clarkson considers her children as well.

Previously, Clarkson addressed her divorce on the premiere of her talk show, The Kelly Clarkson Show saying, “2020 has brought a lot of change also to my personal life. Definitely didn’t see anything coming that came. What I’m dealing with is hard because it involves more than just my heart, it involves a lot of little hearts. We have four kids and divorce is never easy. We’re both from divorced families. We know the best thing here is to protect our children and their little hearts.”

She did say she likely wouldn’t talk about her children and the divorce again, in hopes to protect them, she did touch on the topic in a new interview with Extra.

Clarkson and Gwen Stefani came together to promote The Voice and the Emmy Award-winning talk show host was asked how her children have been the last few months.

It’s just one day when you’re like, ‘Wow, this has forever changed,’ and it’s not just my heart [that] has changed. There’s other little hearts, too,” she said.

Stefani jumped in, having gone through a public divorce, and said how much she supports her fellow Voice coach.

Clarkson continued, “I have a great family and friends that are there for me. … It’s a very hard thing to navigate, to be able to be honest and share your story, so maybe you can help someone else [by speaking up], but at the same time protecting these little kids you adore.”

She also said, “We have a lot of help as far as therapists or child psychologists because we want to do it right. Everyone’s sad and it’s okay to be sad.”

Stefani applauded Clarkson, saying, “You’re doing a really great job. I think it’s hard to be a public person. Now you add in a family … They didn’t choose it.
