Kane Brown And Lauren Alaina Have Known Each Other Since 7th Grade

Kane Brown recently called his longtime friend Lauren Alaina with some exciting news—their 2017 duet, “What Ifs,” has been certified Diamond by the RIAA.

“What Ifs” dominated the charts in 2017. The song reached #1 on both of Billboard‘s country charts. It also peaked at #26 on the all-genre Hot 100 chart.

It later ranked at #4 on the year-end Billboard Hot Country Songs chart. Brown and Alaina helped reignite the song’s popularity the following year with a steamy performance at the 2018 ACM Awards.

“What Ifs” eventually ranked #6 on the decade-end Hot Country Songs chart.

Brown and Alaina, who have been friends since the 7th grade, found it surreal that their duet was such a success. Those feelings remain eight years after its release, now that it’s been certified Diamond.

On Wednesday (February 26), Brown shared a video of himself calling Alaina to surprise her with the news. She was shocked, to say the least!

I’m gonna cry…” she said, adding, “…let’s go dude…are you freaking kidding me?

With tears in her eyes, Alaina said she was glad she got Brown to sing in their middle school choir class. Look where they are now!

Kane Brown And Lauren Alaina’s “What Ifs” Becomes 12th Country Song To Be Certified Diamond By The RIAA

It’s incredibly rare for a single to be certified Diamond. A song must sell the equivalent of 10 million units to reach that status.

Only 11 other country songs have earned Diamond certification. Those songs include Florida Georgia Line’s “Cruise,” Luke Combs‘ “Hurricane,” and Darius Rucker’s “Wagon Wheel.”

Brown already had one Diamond-certified single, 2017’s “Heaven.” He’s one of only a few dozen artists (in any genre) to have multiple Diamond singles.

Brown wanted to celebrate “What Ifs” going Diamond by adding to the diamond tattoo he got for “Heaven.” The same artist who gave him his original diamond tattoo added two tally marks above the image, representing his two diamond singles.

Alaina promised to get her own tattoo to celebrate. She wants Brown to be with her when she does.
