Kacey Musgraves revealed an interesting tidbit about recording the Grammy-winning song “I Remember Everything”— she did it while battling strep throat.

Kacey Musgraves Says She Had Strep While Recording Zach Bryan Duet

In a preview of her interview on Sunday TODAY with Willie Geist, airing this Sunday, March 10, Musgraves shared that although the song has reached chart-topping success, the process of creating it was less-than-ideal due to her being sick.

“I got asked if I wanted to do the song, and of course, I was like, ‘I’m down,’ but I wasn’t feeling well,” she tells host Willie Geist. “Like my throat was hurting. I had just gone on like this trip. And they were like, ‘Well, we kind of have a deadline. Like, if you want to be on this song you kind of got to get it in by like, this day.'”

Even though she was feeling under the weather, Musgraves went ahead and tried to record the song.

“So like, I go to the studio, and I’m like, man, my voice is not cooperating. And I was like, ‘I hope this doesn’t really suck,'” she remembers.

After leaving the studio, despite not feeling her best, Musgraves admitted she finished feeling “pretty good” about her recording. However, as soon as she left, she wasted no time and headed straight to the doctor’s office.

“But I left the studio, and I went to the doctor immediately and I had strep,” she says. “And I like, texted like the engineer. I was like, ‘I’m so sorry, I had strep, and I was just all up in your space.'”

The Success Of “I Remember Everything”

Regardless of the circumstances surrounding Musgraves’ recording session, everything seemed to fall into place for the better. Her collaboration with Zach Bryan on the song “I Remember Everything,” released as the lead single from Bryan’s 2023 self-titled album, turned out to be a massive success. Recently, the song won the title of Best Country Duo/Group Performance at the 2024 Grammys.
