Julianne Hough recently showed off a brand-new bald look, and it’s all because of a bet that her brother, Derek Hough, didn’t follow through with.
This year, Derek Hough found himself as a nominee in PEOPLE’s 2025 Sexiest Man Alive Readers’ Choice Poll. He was recognized in the category for “Sexiest 40-Year-Old.”
When he first found out, he thought his chances of winning were extremely low. So much so, that he even posted a video on social media saying that if he somehow won, he would shave his head.
Well, he ended up regretting that promise pretty quickly. During the Halloween episode of Dancing with the Stars that aired on Tuesday, October 28, it was revealed that Derek had actually been named the winner.
Hosts Alfonso Ribeiro and Derek’s sister, Julianne, shared the news live on air. They also reminded him of the bet he had made.
A clip of Derek’s video promising to shave his head played on the screen for everyone to see. Then, Ribeiro pulled out a pair of clippers, ready to make him follow through on his word. But Derek wasn’t having it. On camera, he could be seen saying the words “No way.”
Since Derek refused to follow through, his sister Julianne decided not to let the moment go to waste. She later shared that she hilariously took on the challenge herself, going completely bald for him.
She showed off her new look on her social media.
“@derekhough wouldn’t shave his, so i did,” she wrote.
Julianne later clarified on her Instagram story that it had all been in good fun. She revealed that she was just wearing a very convincing bald cap.
At first, some fans were concerned she actually did shave off all her hair. However, others knew right away it was all a prank. Comments left by a few fans include:

Although she didn’t actually go through with it this time, Julianne has said before that shaving her head is something she’s always wanted to do.
On an appearance of the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, she shared that she dreams of traveling to Bhutan, a small country in the Himalayas in South Asia, to shave her head with a monk.
“I have this thing on my list of things I want to do: I want to go to Bhutan and shave my head with a monk. It was just to shave my head, but now there’s two added layers: Bhutan and a monk.”
