Fiona and John Prine met on November 28, 1988 and almost eight years later, they married on April 6, 1996.
Just last year, John shared footage from their wedding and used lyrics from his song “The Love Is Real” as his caption on Facebook.
He wrote,
“Happy 23rd Anniversary to the love of my life, mother of my children…
I can taste your lipstick in the wine
I can feel your heartbeat close to mine
With your love wrapped around me
I’m silent and still
I know that this love is real”

One year later, on their 24th anniversary, they are unable to celebrate together.
John is currently battling COVID-19, as well as pneumonia in both lungs. He was put on a ventilator on March 28 and according to an update from Fiona on April 3, it was his 8th day in the ICU. Fiona updated his fans saying, “He has also developed some peripheral issues that are being treated with meds, including antibiotics.”
She continued, “He is very ill and yet I remain hopeful that he can continue to fight this devastating virus and come home where we can care for him.”

On their 24th anniversary, though they are apart, Fiona took to social media to say a few words about her beloved husband.
“24 years and more…we met and fell in love on November 28 1988. The memories are flooding back …my only prayer today is that he can feel my love surrounding him,” she said accompanying a joyful photo from their wedding day.
