Joanna Gaines Shares Her Simple Secret To Staying Healthy

Joanna Gaines is arguably one of the busiest women out there. Not only is she a mom to five kids, but she oversees the operation of her Magnolia conglomerate that includes Magnolia Homes, Magnolia Market, as well as a bakery and restaurant in her hometown of Waco, Texas.

Somehow, despite the overwhelming success of her and her husband Chip’s business ventures, Joanna finds time to enjoy her hobbies, including gardening and baking. So, how exactly does the HGTV star find the energy to maintain such a busy lifestyle? The answer is simple, and a not-so-well-kept secret.

For Joanna, it’s all about balance. She is mindful of what she eats without obsessing over an occasional slice of cake.

“For the most part I just try to eat a lot of protein during the day and then not too many carbs or I will crash at and not make it,” Gaines says during an interview for Health. “So, I think just drinking a lot of water and being conscious of what I’m putting in my body and being conscious of what I’m doing to relieve stress, like walking and exercising, trying to find that balance.”

Gaines keeps a handy stash of protein bars or trail mix with her for a burst of protein throughout the day. She also says that bananas and oranges are a go-to.

What about the occasional splurge? Joanna has no problem with indulging every now and then. “Typically with sweets, I go all out,” she says. “If you’re gonna make the cake, just make the cake.”

But, the mom makes sure that most of her family’s diet includes foods such as the fruits and vegetables that they grow in their impressive garden.
