Jo Dee Messina “Returns The Love” To Kelly Clarkson

Jo Dee Messina couldn’t resist singing one of Kelly Clarkson’s biggest hits during a recent live show.

Earlier this week, Kelly Clarkson took the stage for a Kellyoke spin of Jo Dee Messina’s 90s hit “A Lesson In Leavin'” on her daytime talk show. Kelly has always had a soft spot for country music, especially for the women who’ve shaped the genre.

Jo Dee’s version was released in 1999 and shot up to number two on the Hot Country Songs chart. But the track has deeper roots.

Written by Randy Goodrum and Brent Mehr, it was first recorded by Dottie West in 1979, whose version reached number one.

Decades later, fans (including Kelly) are still obsessed with the country classic.

Fans loved Kelly’s take on the tune, and it even caught Jo Dee’s attention. She ended up sharing the performance on her Instagram Story, writing “Love this so much, [Kelly Clarkson]!”

Jo Dee was so flattered that Kelly took the time to celebrate one of her songs, she wanted to repay the favor. Just one day later, she performed Kelly’s smash hit “Since U Been Gone” during a live show.

She shared a clip of the performance on her Instagram, writing, “When Kelly Clarkson covers your song, you gotta return the love.”

Fans enjoyed the energy she brought to the song. Some are even calling for a Jo Dee and Kelly duet in the future.

“One of my all time favorites! Love y’all swapping songs ❤️❤️❤️❤️,” a fan wrote.

“I love u and Kelly! We need a duet!,” another said.

“I saw this LIVE on Sunday night in Arizona! We loved the show! ❤️❤️” said a fan who was in attendance that evening.
