Jelly Roll openly discusses his criminal past. He has not shied away from discussing his arrests as they are a part of his redemption story. At 16, he was arrested and fined as an adult for aggravated robbery and possession with intent to sell.
He served a year in prison and was given seven years of probation. He was arrested again shortly after at the age of 18 for two counts of aggravated robbery. His final arrest happened when he was 23 years old for selling drugs.
He was released from prison for the last time in 2009, and it is widely known that the birth of his daughter motivated him to change his life.
Since then, Jelly Roll has become a household name not as a felon but as a country superstar and philanthropic force.

Jelly Roll Wants To Make Amends
The singer recently appeared on the Jay Shetty Podcast to discuss everything from new music to his past. During his interview, Jelly Roll opened up about wanting to make amends with those he had robbed.
“I really want to have a conversation with them. I’ve thought about reaching out,” he says, but he wasn’t sure how to start the conversation after so much time has passed.
“I just don’t even know how that would start — you know, how I would go about it — because sometimes I wonder if they might have even seen me in passing or are aware of my success.”
When asked more about the crimes that he had committed and how he feels about them now, he said, “No matter how old I was, I had no business taking from anybody.”
