Jelly Roll Won Big At The Grammys

On Sunday, February 1, Jelly Roll won the first three Grammys of his career.

The Recording Academy hosted the biggest names in music for the Grammy Awards in Los Angeles, California. Hosted by Trevor Noah, the night featured incredible performances from musicians across genres.

The standout performances included the Post Malone-led tribute to the late Ozzy Osbourne, as well as Reba McEntire’s In Memoriam tribute set to the tune of her song “Trailblazer.” That performance was extra emotional seeing as her son, Brandon Blackstock, was one of the being being honored in the segment.

Before the Grammys’ live broadcast even started, Jelly Roll learned he won not one but two Grammy Awards: Best Country Duo/Group Performance for “Amen” with Shaboozey, and Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for “Hard Fought Hallelujah” with Brandon Lake.

These awards were announced in a ceremony that took place before the live broadcast, so Jelly Roll and his wife, Bunnie XO, found out as they were getting ready to walk the red carpet. She was getting ready in a different hotel room, so once she heard the news, she ran to his room. As her caption states, while she was uploading this video, he won another Grammy!

During the live broadcast, Jelly Roll was nominated for the award for Best Contemporary Country Album. He was up against Miranda Lambert, Tyler Childers, Kelsea Ballerini, and Eric Church, and ended up winning the category!

In a video posted to Bunnie’s social media accounts, Jelly Roll said he thought Ballerini would take home the award, though he did cheer for every artist nominated.

Jelly Roll Broke Down In Tears Accepting his Grammy Award

The second presenters Lainey Wilson and Jeff Goldblum announced Jelly Roll’s name, he immediately broke down in tears.

He walked on stage and gave all his Glory to God and Jesus, saying, “They’re going to try to kick me off here, so just let me try to get this out. First of all, Jesus, I hear you, and I’m listening. Lord, I am listening. Lord.”

Then, he took time to thank his wife, who he credits for saving him.

“Second of all, I want to thank my beautiful wife,” he said. “I would have never changed my life without you. I would have ended up dead or in jail. I would have killed myself if it wasn’t for you and Jesus. I thank you for that.”

Jelly Roll then spoke about how, at one point in his life, all he had to his name was a tiny bible and a radio the same size in his jail cell.

“I believed that those two things could change my life. I believe that music had the power to change my life, and God had the power to change my life. And I want to tell y’all right now Jesus is for everybody. Jesus is not owned by one political party. Jesus is not owned by no music label. Jesus is Jesus, and anybody can have a relationship with Him. I love you, Lord,” he said.
