Jelly Roll Performs Two Songs For “Those Who Overcame” During Debut SNL Appearance

Anticipation has been building for Saturday Night Live’s (SNL) milestone 50th season since the Season 49 finale aired back in May.

The long-awaited premiere on Saturday (September 28) promised to be a memorable one. The show certainly didn’t disappoint, featuring none other than country star Jelly Roll as the musical guest. And better yet, Jelly had a special performance planned for the show.

Jelly Roll’s appearance on SNL comes at a pivotal moment in his career. With his new album, Beautifully Broken, slated for release on October 1, the timing couldn’t be more perfect. The singer’s excitement was clear when he took to Instagram to share the news of his SNL debut, writing:

“BRB going to cry for a few hours and call every family member I have. Bringing therapeutic music to my favorite show ever. God is Good.”

Adding to the star power of the season premiere, Emmy-winning actress Jean Smart hosted the show for the first time, delivering a night of laughter and entertainment. SNL has already lined up an impressive roster of hosts and musical guests for the following weeks:

October 5: Host Nate Bargatze with musical guest Coldplay
October 12: Host Ariana Grande accompanied by the legendary Stevie Nicks
October 19: Host Michael Keaton paired with pop sensation Billie Eilish
November 2: Host John Mulaney with rising star Chappell Roan

In the lead-up to his SNL appearance, Jelly Roll took a moment to connect with his fans on social media.

The singer told fans that he had a special performance planned for the show, revealing he thought “long and hard” about it.

“I have decided to represent those who have not traditionally been represented in pop culture. Tomorrow night is for those who have overcame. Please tune in. On the biggest platform I’ve ever had I will double down on my message.”

Jelly Roll’s SNL debut did not disappoint. The star had the honor of performing two songs from his upcoming album. After being introduced by actress Jean Smart, Jelly sang “Liar” followed by “Winning Streak.”
