Mia Robertson, the daughter of Duck Dynasty stars Jase and Missy Robertson, was born with a bilateral cleft lip and palate. She underwent her first operation when she was three months old.
Duck Dynasty chronicled some of Mia’s journey. Fans of the show would reach out to send their well-wishes and prayers every time Mia underwent another surgery.
In 2021, Mia underwent her most extensive surgery to date. Her jaws were cut and reset to hopefully improve her speech and overall health. The surgery was a success, and she made a full recovery.
Mia is now 18, and is preparing to attend Lipscomb University in Nashville on scholarship as a biology major. But before she left for school, Mia had one more surgery:
“People ask me, ‘How many more surgeries does Mia have left?’ The answer is always, ‘We just don’t know,'” Mia’s mom Missy said in a post on social media. “HOWEVER, this may, possibly, likely, has a good chance to, could be…the last one! What a journey this cleft road has been. Please pray for success and safety (and that all-important anesthesia cocktail).“
Since Mia is now 18, she was “taking the lead” for the first time when it came to matters concerning her surgery.

Mia’s surgery was on Friday (July 8). Jase shared some photos of him and Missy with Mia before the operation:
“@miarobertson1 was just wheeled away for what we are anticipating is her last cleft-related surgery,” Jase said in the caption. “Surgeon says it will take him 3 hours and his goal is to never see her in this setting again. We pray he is correct. Thanks for always loving our girl!“

Jase shared an update on Mia after the surgery was complete. He said it took a little longer than they anticipated, but everything went well:
“Update on Mia: surgery went a little longer than expected, but she is home and recovering,” Jase wrote in his update. “Thank you for praying for her and for our family. She is a champion!”

Mia also shared an update on her own Instagram. She said she hopes this will be the last time she’ll ever need to see her doctors for this type of operation.
“surgery 14! hopefully the last time i’ll see my doctors in this setting! it’s been a long road but we are at the finish line…” she said.
