Ingrid Andress Received Backlash For Her National Anthem Performance At The 2024 Home Run Derby

Country singer Ingrid Andress became the subject of criticism after singing the National Anthem at the Home Run Derby game in July 2024. Unfortunately, her performance wasn’t her best, as she struggled to hit some of the notes and sang off-key.

Andress earned a lot of criticism in the immediate aftermath of her performance, with some even calling it a “disrespectful” rendition. Her performance drew comparisons to other “failed” renditions of the National Anthem by performers such as Fergie and Roseanne Barr.

Andress addressed the backlash in a statement posted to social media the day after the performance. She also said she’d be checking into a rehab facility to get some help:

“I’m not gonna bulls— y’all, I was drunk last night. I’m checking myself into a facility to get the help I need. That was not me last night. I apologize to the MLB, all the fans, and this country I love so much for that rendition. I’ll let y’all know how rehab is I hear it’s super fun. xo, Ingrid.”

Andress Returns 7 Months After Retreating From The Spotlight

After making that post, Andress disappeared from the public eye for the next seven months. After taking that time off, she gave herself a second chance by performing the National Anthem again.

The new performance took place prior to the Colorado Avalanche’s hockey game on Friday (February 28). In her first social media post since July 2024, Andress shared a video of her singing and captioned it, “We’re back baby. Thank you @coloradoavalanche.”

Andress’ video only shows her from the back as she sang. The crowd seemed to enjoy her performance, cheering, clapping, and singing along with her throughout.

The video ends with Andress grinning as she leaves the ice while the crowd applauds. She was clearly proud of herself and her performance!

Many fans praised Andress’ performance, believing she redeemed herself with her new rendition. People commenting on her video wrote:

“Was at the game, glad you got up there!”

“This was really brave. As someone who knew you in High School youth group (you probably don’t remember me) and as someone who’s battled addiction myself, I’ve been hoping you were doing well! Best wishes. People can recover.”

“Was just listening to your music today and wondering when you’d be back!”

“This is iconic ngl.”

“So proud of you Ingrid!!!!”

“So good to hear you again!”

“Welcome back Ingrid Andress great job!”

But Andress’ new performance still received a little criticism, with some people writing:

“it’s just as bad what.”

“ha! you don’t even have an excuse for your bad singing this time. maybe stick to writing the songs.”

“With all due respect, never come to Colorado again.”

Some also criticized Andress for laughing in the middle of the song, seemingly in a shocked response to the crowd enthusiastically singing along with her at one point.

However, there were far more comments sharing love for Andress, praising her performance, and expressing joy that she’s returned after her hiatus. Watch her new National Anthem performance in the clip below.

Just days after making her return, Andress announced the release of a new song, “Footprints,” which is now available for everyone to hear.
