One of the most popular drivers in NASCAR‘s history has his own racing team he owns with his sister, Kelley Earnhardt-Miller. Racing definitely runs in the family as Kelley’s daughter, Karsyn, has a car fielded by their company JR Motorsports – but his other niece hadn’t ever been around a regulation track at 200mph before!
Dale Jr. first started JR Motorsports back in 1998 as a division of his racing team designed to help boost his business value through merchandise and sponsorship deals, but in 2002, that all changed and he turned the business into a full-featured racing team.
Now, partnered with his business-savvy sister, the two run a very successful and well-known racing team in the Xfinity Series and Whelen All-American Series with a total number of 6 drivers both full and part-time.
In a new episode of his series JRM 360, the driver/owner takes his youngest niece out on a super-fast white-knuckle ride around Charlotte Motor Speedway – and she loved it!
“Not everybody gets to ride in a racecar with their uncle,” Kelley said. “So I’m excited for her to see what it feels like!”
Hopping in the No. 88 at this famous racetrack, Kennedy and her Uncle Dale got ready for a few laps around the track at full speed – and boy, was it a ride of a lifetime!
Cranking up the massive engine in his stock car, Dale Jr. roared out of pit road and onto the wide-open asphalt with Kennedy strapped into the seat next to him.
“Are you nervous?” he asked before they took off. “A little bit, yeah!” she said with a slight chuckle.
Speeding around the track at close to 200 mph, these two Earnhardt family members had a blast, but part of it was a white-knuckle ride for young Kennedy – especially when Dale Jr. got inches from the wall!
“Every time we were gonna towards the wall, it looked like we were gonna hit it – but he turned just in time!”
Clearly, this was a once-in-a-lifetime moment for anybody and a great experience for aspiring driver Kennedy. And what a great role model to have for a young driver!?
Watch this intense race around the track with Dale Jr. at the wheel and his young niece hanging on for the ride of a lifetime in the passenger seat!
Let us know if you’d get in the car and do this too!
