American Idol Airs Highly Anticipated “Songs Of Faith” Night

American Idol returned with one of its most well-loved episodes of the season on Monday (March 30), as contestants took the stage for a special “Songs of Faith” night.

The episode challenged the Top 20 contestants to perform songs rooted in faith, spirituality, or personal belief. The night was filled with heartfelt tributes and deeply personal moments by many of the contestants who come from religious backgrounds.

The episode was also the season’s first live show as the competition narrows to the Top 12. Each one of the judges also took the stage, adding to the appeal of the highly anticipated show.

Lionel Richie & Luke Bryan Take The Stage Together

To kick off the night, judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan took the stage together to perform “Jesus Is Love.”

Joined by the top 20 contestants, the two delivered a soulful performance of the hit, originally performed by the Commodores, Richies own band, in 1976. The song is especially meaningful to Richie, as he was the writer behind the track.

Fans gushed over the performance, saying it was the perfect choice to sing right before Easter.

“Love it! Praise Jesus,” one fan wrote.

“Legit made me cry and started to pray in my head!” another said.
