John Foster & Breanna Nix Were Frontrunners On American Idol Season 23
Each year, American Idol adds more names to their list of talented alumni. Season 23 introduced America to rising country music stars Breanna Nix and John Foster. While R&B singer Jamal Roberts ultimately took home the crown, Foster and Nix finished in second and third place, respectively.
Breanna Nix immediately got the attention of the Idol judges during her audition when she made the bold choice to cover Carrie Underwood‘s “Jesus Take The Wheel.” Her sweet family won over the hearts of viewers when her young son dozed off in Carrie’s arms as his mom sang.
Now, Breanna is working on recording new music while continuing to share snippets of her life as a wife and mother. She made her Grand Ole Opry debut in June 2025.

John Foster showed off his southern charm with covers of Alan Jackson and Conway Twitty classics during his audition. Later in the season, he made a lasting impact when he tearfully performed an original song in honor of his late best friend.
Since his time on the show, John has kept busy playing shows and furthering his career. He also made his Opry debut the same week as Breanna and recently performed at the Rose Parade.

Breanna Nix And John Foster Perform One Of Country Music’s Saddest Songs
The two Idol favorites recently reunited to share a casual kitchen cover of “Whiskey Lullaby.”
“Whiskey Lullaby” was written by the oldest member of the Grand Ole Opry, Bill Anderson, along with songwriter and producer Jon Randall. The song was recorded as a duet by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss and released on Paisley’s 2003 album, Mud on the Tires.

The heartbreaking ballad tells the story of two lovers whose painful separation leads them to drink themselves to death. It won Song of the Year at the 2005 CMA Awards and has since been certified 2x Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
John accompanied the duet with his acoustic guitar, and their voices harmonized beautifully. Watch Breanna Nix and John Foster sing “Whiskey Lullaby” in the video below!
