On September 1st, we bid farewell to the legendary Jimmy Buffett. He leaves behind his devoted wife of 46 years, Jane Slagsvol, and three beloved children.
Jimmy’s team shared the news on social media alongside a serene photograph of the singer.
“Jimmy passed away peacefully on the night of September 1st surrounded by his family, friends, music and dogs. He lives his life like a song till the very last breath and will be missed beyond measure by so many.”
The Beginning Of Jimmy & Jane
Buffett maintained a notably low profile when it came to his personal life, leaving even some of his most dedicated fans in the dark about his relationships. He and his wife, Jane, crossed paths in 1971 in Key West. At the time, Jimmy was a resident of the area, while Jane was on a Spring Break getaway with her friends, having attended the University of South Carolina. Their meeting at the bar, the Chart Room, altered the course of her plans, as she chose not to return to school.
They moved in together shortly after meeting and were married in 1977 and the Eagles – who Buffett was opening for at the time – performed at the wedding.
A Difficult Time
After five years of marriage, Jimmy and Jane decided to part ways, attributing their separation to their vibrant “party lifestyle.”
“I’d been with Jimmy since I was a child, through the wildest times, and I didn’t have a clue who I was,” Jane shared with TIME magazine. “So I left. I got sober.”
Jimmy, too, confessed to being worn down by their extravagant lifestyle. “The hangovers started to feel like surgical recoveries,” he candidly admitted.
In 1991, they found their way back to each other, and since then, their journey has been nothing but smooth sailing!
They Had 3 Children Together
Despite spending some time apart, they are parents to three wonderful kids – Savannah (born in 1979), Delaney (born in 1992), and Cameron Marley (born in 1994).

She Was His Muse
As detailed in the biography Jimmy Buffett: A Good Life All The Way, it was thanks to Jane that he and his band, the Coral Reefers, underwent a style transformation, shedding their formerly “grungy” appearance of ripped jeans and t-shirts.
Furthermore, her influence extended to his music, notably inspiring his chart-topping song “Come Monday,” which debuted in 1978.
Jane was very supportive of all his business ventures, and was there every step of his career.
We are sending our thoughts and prayers to Jane and their children during this time of grief.
