The 25-year-old Tennessee native stole the hearts of thousands of people when she auditioned for American Idol.
Emmy Russell made a strong impression on season 22 of American Idol when she auditioned with her emotional song “Skinny,” which speaks about her struggle with an eating disorder caused by criticism about her weight when she was younger. Not only is Emmy a skilled performer who eventually made it to the top 5, but her connection to music as the granddaughter of the legendary Loretta Lynn also adds to her story.
Throughout her time in the singing competition, Emmy Russell aimed to establish a name for herself outside of her famous family, yet she never shied away from honoring her grandmother whenever she could. During the competition, she performed Loretta Lynn’s classic “Coal Miner’s Daughter,” and in the past, she has even sung other iconic songs in tribute of Loretta.
Emmy Russell recently visited her grandmother’s old home.
As Emmy Russell continues to grow her music career, her country icon grandmother remains in her thoughts. Recently, she shared on Instagram that she visited Loretta’s old home in Butcher Hollow, Kentucky. Now that she is old enough to appreciate the history behind the property, she found the experience to be surreal.
“Some history for me…went to memaws house, saw some family, met some people when I played at Alley Fest that supported me on American idol and prior since I was a kid,” Emmy wrote in a post accompanied by photos of her at the historic home.
“[For] the first time as a woman I got to see and feel the history! I think I went when I was 7 playing a show with her to her house, but it is so neat to appreciate it now that I’m older.”
We love seeing Emmy continue to honor her grandmother’s legacy!
