25-year-old aspiring singer Emmy Russell has musical greatness in her DNA. She is the granddaughter of the First Lady of Country Music, Miss Loretta Lynn. The beloved country singer passed away in 2022 at the age of 90, but members of her family continue to carry out her legacy.
Russell first impressed the American Idol judges during her audition with her raw and honest song “Skinny.” As the show has progressed, she has alternated between performing covers of hit songs and her own originals.
Emmy Russell secures a spot in the American Idol Top 20
For the first time this season, Idol fans were able to vote for their favorite contestants last week and determine who would advance to the next round. Russell impressed the viewers with a cover of Benson Boone’s viral hit, “Beautiful Things.”
Boone was an American Idol contestant himself, having competed during Season 19 of the show. However, he dropped our of the competition to pursue his career independently.
Russell’s performance, which was praised by all the judges, earned her a spot in the Top 20! Watch it below.
Emmy Russell performs stunning original song “Want You” on American Idol
This week, Emmy Russel returned to her songwriting roots and performed a song titled “Want You,” a heartfelt ballad about love and desire.
She donned an elegant yellow dress, which was a subtle nod to her grandmother Loretta Lynn’s iconic golden dress which she wore to celebrate her 50th anniversary of being a Grand Ole Opry member.
Russell’s beautiful performance earned praise online with her fans commenting:
