Elvis Actor Sets ‘Idol’ On Fire With George Strait Cover

Drake Milligan who plays Elvis on CMT’s Sun Records proved during his American Idol audition Sunday night that his talent runs deep.

An Elvis fan since he was first introduced to the King’s music at age 7, Milligan has spent most of his life learning all he could about him.

“I was about 7 and my family was eating at a restaurant when we saw my first Elvis impersonator by total accident,” Milligan told CMT last year. “I had heard some Elvis songs on the radio. During Christmastime, they’d play ‘Blue Christmas,’ and I knew I liked his songs, but I didn’t know who it was singing them. I just knew I liked them. … I started reading, watching and just picking up everything I could about him.”

During his American Idol audition, Milligan showed the judges a different side as he delivered a stunning version of George Strait’s ballad “You Look So Good In Love.” The performance had the judges entrances as they sat speechless and simply listened to him sing.

“I was praying you didn’t sound like Elvis,” Luke Bryan told Milligan. “You didn’t. You just crushed it. If I see you in Nashville and I hear you do that, I would be fire up there and I’m fired up now. You’re cowboy cool, man.”

Lionel Richie agreed with Luke saying, “You are comfortable, my friend. I just sat back and could hear another song and another song. You’re comfortable in your skin. You’re comfortable in your voice. You’re attitude…the whole thing is a package.”

Been getting a lot of questions about no longer appearing on American Idol after my audition, just thought I'd let y'all…
