It has been a heartbreaking couple of days for the Bentley family as they said goodbye to their best friend. Dierks Bentley is sharing the loss of his longtime companion and buddy, George, who has been part of the family for over a decade. Now, Dierks is here to tell George’s story…
George’s Goodbye
Dierks posted a series of photos with his beloved George hanging out with the family, going for walks, and even in his Halloween costume. His tiny body paired with his sweet gaze made him the perfect pup, but his loving attitude is what really left a mark on the Bentley family.
In Dierks’ shared post, he explains that he has held off about sharing George’s death for a little while because it would make it “feel too formal and final.” But now, he is ready to share his memory with the world. Thankfully, his wife, Cassidy, found all the right words to say about their favorite furry friend.
“George. Original Gangster. Baby before babies. And after. How many nights did I collapse on the couch after taking care of 1/2/3 kids only to look down and see you glaring at me with a look that said MY TURN.”
Dierks’ wife continues, “You were never one to be denied your cuddle. Your Presence always yanked me out of my own head and brought me back into the moment of just you and me and your demands for affection. That was such a gift.”
Just by looking at the very first photo, you can see how close Cassidy and George were. As he lays in her arms, she leans down to kiss his forehead.
“King George, you wrecked so much havoc, incited so much laughter and comforted in so many difficult moments. You reigned in our house and in our hearts for 14 years and right now your absence feels like a hole the size of an entire Dachshund shaped universe.”
Cassidy finishes her goodbye with a sweet ending,
“We are trying to fill that hole with gratitude and with the wildest hope that your spirit has already reunited with Jake’s in what lies beyond.”
