Did Derek Hough accidentally tell a big secret on live television?
Derek, who serves as one of the three judges on Dancing with the Stars, has fans speculating that he may have revealed whether he and his wife, Hayley Erbert, are expecting a boy or a girl.
Back in July, the couple announced that they are expecting their first child together.
In the post, Derek and Hayley shared a sweet video of them coming together in a hug, before Hayley shows ultrasound photos behind Derek’s back to let the audience know the exciting news.
Since then, they have shared several photos and videos about their journey of becoming first-time parents. But one thing they’ve chosen to keep private is the gender of their baby.

While appearing on Live with Kelly and Mark on September 3, Derek shared that he and his wife had no plans to reveal that information before the birth.
“You know, there’s not a lot of surprises in life, right?,” he said. “We’re going to keep that one to ourselves.”
And they had been sticking to that… until recently.

On the October 14 episode of DWTS, it was “Dedication Night,” where each celebrity honored someone special in their life.
During the show, Olympian Jordan Chiles performed a Viennese Waltz with her father, Timothy Chiles. The emotional routine, choreographed by her pro partner Ezra Sosa, was set to John Mayer’s song “Daughters.”
When it came time for the judges to give their feedback, Derek shared that the performance really hit home for him. He said it made him think about his own future and how that could be him one day.
“Watching you two dance really made me excited to have my own moment with my—” he said, quickly catching himself. “With my own child,” he says instead.
He hilariously side-eyes the camera, aware of his mistake.
“It’s so beautiful,” he continued. “There’s a tenderness. It was simple. There was a care to it. It was just a really beautiful dance. And I hope you both cherish that moment.”
Neither Hayley nor Derek has commented on his possible slip-up of almost saying “daughter” on national television. So, fans will just have to wait to see if the suspicions are true!
