Derek Hough Shares The Story Of How Someone Stole His Precious Mirrorball Trophies Years Ago
Derek Hough is definitely keeping a closer eye on his Mirrorball trophies these days.
The Dancing with the Stars judge recently appeared on Bobby Bones’ Bobbycast, where he shared a wild story about waking up one day to find his Mirrorball trophies missing from his home.
It turns out, someone had actually stolen them.
Derek explained that the incident happened back when he was still a bachelor and had only won three Mirrorballs at the time.
Based on that, the story likely took place sometime between 2010 and 2013, before he went on to win three more during his run as a pro dancer on the show.
He shared that he had invited people back to his place for an after-party following an event, but when he woke up the next morning, his trophies were nowhere to be found.
“I woke up, you know the next day, and I was like ‘Where’s my…Where’s my trophy?'” he says. “And I was like, ‘Wait a minute, somebody took my trophy.”
Derek then clarified that two of the three trophies were taken.
“Luckily, there was like a card on the ground. It was like somebody’s card. I don’t know. It was random.”
So, he did the only thing that made sense and called the person’s number, hoping they’d know something.
Turns out, they did. Derek shared that the person admitted to taking the trophies, but the problem wasn’t solved at that point.
Somehow, the Mirrorballs ended up in Koreatown, which he noted was nowhere near where he was living at the time. The person had, for some reason, left them in a bush at an undisclosed address.
Thankfully, everything worked out in the end. Derek said he went to the location and, sure enough, the trophies were sitting in a bush. He was able to safely bring them back home.

Those wild, unpredictable days are clearly behind him now, though. These days, Derek is enjoying life as a first-time dad.
The dancer and his wife, Hayley Erbert, welcomed a baby girl on December 29.
They shared the happy news in an Instagram post featuring a black-and-white photo of their hands holding their tiny newborn’s feet.
In the caption, Derek and Hayley revealed they named their daughter Everley Capri Hough.
