David Nail Took To Instagram To Announce That His Mother Passed Away
On Sunday (Nov. 23), country singer David Nail revealed on social media that he is mourning the moss of his mother, Donna Nail.
He posted a photo of his wife, Catherine, and their daughters Ellie and Lillian holding his mom’s hand, along with eight slides of screenshots from the Notes App, detailing his grief of when and how he found out his mother had passed away.
In the post, he revealed that he was driving when his father texted him, asking the country singer if he could pull over if he was driving.
“I knew what that meant,” Nail wrote. “I didn’t pull over. I called him immediately.”
Nail’s father told him, “Your mother is pain free.”
The “Red Light” singer wrote, “Even though I knew in my heart, as I left her bedside the previous Sunday afternoon, that it was a real possibility she wouldn’t make it another week, I was in shock.”
He continued driving for about five minutes until the tears in his eyes became too much for him to drive safely. That’s when he finally pulled over to call his wife to tell her his mother had gone to Heaven.
He continued, saying that the sounds on the other end of the phone call included screams and sobs from his children.
David Nail Opens Up About His Immense Grief
As Nail was sitting on the side of the road, the singer says he “sobbed violently, for the second time in 3 days.”
He wrote, “Sunday, as I sat on the floor by her bed, holding her hand, it was a feeling, my body had never experienced. It was grief, and a sadness, that was so extreme, just the mere attempt to speak made my body convulse, and left me gasping for air. I couldn’t feel my legs. I was scared to stand. For 24 hrs, I felt as if I’d been awake the entire time. My eyes hurt, my head hurt, my body ached, and my heart broken.”
He wrote about how his mother told him recently about the decline in her health and that she didn’t want David or his siblings to reschedule or cancel anything. She wanted him to continue to perform, even if she died.
Knowing for three days that he may never see his mother again, Nail had to go on stage and perform as though nothing had happened. How he managed to do that, we will never know! We can’t imagine the amount of pain he was in.
After posting this on social media, Nail had to perform one more show before heading back to Nashville to pick up his family and drive to his hometown to lay his mother to rest.
He opened up about the grief of driving to his childhood home for the first time knowing that his mother wouldn’t be there to greet him, something no one can prepare you for.
