A fan favorite was sent home after an exciting and emotional two-hour birthday celebration on Dancing With the Stars Tuesday night.
Seven celebrities and their professional dance partners pulled out all the stops for this week’s Dancing With the Stars 20th Birthday celebration. Each duo performed a routine inspired by an iconic dance from a previous season, and six of the seven remaining couples paired with a former champion for a Relay Dance Challenge.
The night also saw the highest scores of the season with Robert Irwin & Witney Carson, Dylan Efron & Daniella Karagach, Alix Earle & Val Chmerkovskiy, and Whitney Leavitt & Mark Ballas all earning perfect scores. While the perfect scores from the judges don’t mean that these teams were immune from elimination, it did help them avoid it for another week. The judges’ scores were combined with viewer votes to determine who will be sent home, and the four couples listed above earned enough to advance to next week’s semi-finals.

That left Jordan Chiles & Ezra Sosa, Elaine Hendrix and Alan Bernsten, and Andy Richter & Emma Slater in danger. This week, the celebrity sent home was Andy Richter.
The comedian consistently sat at the bottom of the leaderboard throughout the competition, but was a fan favorite who earned the public vote week after week. After his elimination, he told the hosts that the show changed his life. “I certainly feel like a winner.”

The six semi-finalists will return to the dance floor next Tuesday to compete during a Prince-themed night dedicated to the Grammy Award-winning “Purple Rain” singer.
