Dan + Shay have spoken out after a long break from social media, which had many fans worried about the duo’s future.
The three-time Grammy-winning duo has been very quiet for most of 2025. After dropping their Bigger Houses album in 2023 and following it with a collection of Christmas songs, fans really haven’t heard much from Dan Smyers and Shay Mooney.
They also hadn’t posted on social media for nearly six months, which left many fans wondering if they had secretly split.
Finally, on Thursday, October 1, Dan + Shay broke their silence with a video on Instagram that set the record straight and put all the breakup rumors to rest.
“Hey, we just wanted to pop on here real quick,” Dan begins as Shay is sitting beside him. “I know it won’t be quick. I’ll start rambling, but just to give you guys an update as to where we’ve been. We did not plan to take a social media hiatus for almost a whole year, but last year was crazy.”
He went on to list all the things they had accomplished in the past year. Between serving as the first-ever duo coaches on The Voice, going on two tours, releasing a Christmas album, and keeping up with social media, they had plenty on their plates.
In addition to all that, Shay and his wife, Hannah, also welcomed a new baby not long after.
“We’ve been in the studio literally all year, pretty much every day making our favorite music we’ve ever made,” Dan explained. “People are asking, ‘Did Dan and Shay break up?’ Literally, we could not be further from breaking up.’”
He continued, “But just wanted to pop on here and say, we love you guys. We’ve been thinking about you. We miss you. We’ve just been buried in the studio and forgot to post on socials. So here we are. We’re posting on socials, hitting the algorithm.”
All the wait from fans is about to pay off, too, because Dan + Shay also revealed they’ll be releasing a Christmas song this year, along with a “couple other little surprises” coming soon.
“Next year’s going to be crazy,” they promised. “More music than ever. More shows, more tours than ever. We’re fired up. 2026 is going to be huge for us. But yeah, we just wanted to say we’re thinking about y’all. We love y’all.”
