Damar Hamlin has made a remarkable recovery after going into cardiac arrest during the Bills-Bengals game on January 2, 2023. Hamlin collapsed on the field shortly after tackling the Bengals’ wide receiver Tee Higgins.
Viewers watched live as Hamlin received emergency medical treatment on the field and was eventually whisked away in an ambulance. He was taken to the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and was initially reported to be in critical condition.
Hamlin remained on a ventilator for a few days until he was able to breathe on his own. He was eventually discharged from the Medical Center on January 9, one week after his collapse.

On February 9, Hamlin appeared at the 2023 NFL Honors ceremony. He was joined onstage by medical staff from the Bills and Bengals and by doctors from the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.
During an emotional speech, Hamlin said:
“My entire life, I felt like God was using me to give others hope. And now with a new set of circumstances, I can only say he’s doing what he’s always done. I have a long journey ahead. A journey full of unknowns and a journey full of milestones, but it’s a lot easier to face your fears when you know your purpose.”
Fans of Hamlin’s have loved seeing his progress after going through such a scary experience. So many people were thrilled when he recently made a surprise appearance on The Masked Singer.
Hamlin was not a contestant on the popular singing competition series. Instead, he was there to help the show celebrate Sesame Street week.
Many of the beloved Sesame Street characters kicked off the episode by singing “Dynamite” by BTS. Hamlin’s younger brother, Damir, later appeared to speak with Elmo. When Elmo asked Damir if he brought a guest, he responded that his brother was there.
That’s when host Nick Cannon said:
“Ladies and gentlemen, Buffalo Bills in the building! Damar Hamlin, the man that brought the whole world together, inspiring us all!“

The elder Hamlin made his way onstage, flashing his signature heart symbol with his hands. He said he wanted to appear on the show to make his brother happy:
“[I’m] Mainly [here] because of my brother. That’s my world. I put family first and he loves ‘Sesame Street’ more than most things so we had to make it tonight.”
