Summer is here! If you’re like most parents, you know that the initial excitement over summer break will begin to wane and you’ll be forced to find ways to help your kiddos beat their summer boredom.
Researchers claim that a boredom can be good for your kids as it forces them to be creative and let their imaginations run wild. But, if you’re looking for a way to keep your kids busy, what better way than to allow them to make their own play dough. Not only is it super easy, but the mess is minimal…something busy parents should be excited about.
Our favorite ways to make homemade play dough is in a Crock Pot. Yes…you read that right! You can make play dough in a Crock Pot! All it takes is six ingredients and about one hour. The result is the softest, and smoothest play dough you will ever get your hands on. Your kids will love it, but we bet parents will have a hard time resisting the temptation to play with it as well.
Check out the recipe below and give it a try. If you like what you made, take a pic and share it with us!
CROCK POT PLAY DOUGH
2 cups flour
1/2 cup salt
4 tbsp cream of tartar
2 cups water
2 tbsp oil
1-2 tsp food colouring
In a large bowl, combine flour, salt and cream of tartar. In a separate bowl, combine the water, oil and food coloring.
Pour dry ingredients into bowl of crock pot , add wet ingredients and mix to combine thoroughly.
Cook on high for 45-60 minutes, stirring often for the first 30 minutes of cooking time, then once or twice for remaining cooking time.
Dough will be done when it no longer sticks to the sides of your crock pot and can be easily formed into a ball without sticking to your fingers.
Remove complete mix from slow cooker, knead and place in container to cool. Store in fridge in a plastic air tight container.
