Al Boogie returns to The Voice with the country classic, “Pickup Man.”

Season 24 of The Voice has seen the return of Al Boogie, who is determined to stand out on the stage and make more of an impact this go around. With a rendition of Joe Diffie’s “Pickup Man,” he managed to perk some ears up and temporarily, transport the room back to the 1990s.

A couple of judges, Niall Horan and Gwen Stefani, almost went to turn their chairs around so they could secure Al Boogie on their team but that’s when Reba hit the button to turn her chair around and got to him first.

Al Boogie brought 90s country music to The Voice.

As the Queen of the country music scene expressed her appreciation for Al Boogie’s sound, she acknowledged her fondness for the 90s-style country song he decided to sing. Reba wasn’t the only judge who enjoyed it, however.

Niall also chimmed in saying, “The minute you started speaking, I was like, ‘I recognize that voice!’ I’m so happy for you, because I was thinking, ‘I’m gonna go’ — and then she went, and I was like, ’Well, that’ll be a waste of time!’”

Stefani also said, “It’s a genre that I’ve been learning, obviously, for the last eight years since I’ve been with Blake [Shelton], …But I feel like your voice, when you speak, it has so much character. And in the song it did, as well — but I was maybe looking for a little bit more character at the right times? So then when Reba pressed, I was like ‘Oh my gosh, Gwen, you don’t even know what you’re talking about!’ — and then it was over… and here we are.”

Al Boogie’s first appearance on The Voice.

When Al Boogie’s first appeared on The Voice in Season 23 but didn’t progress past the Blind Audition stage. His return in Season 24 displayed evident growth, catching the attention of the coaches. Horan spoke with him and found out that he had lost 50 pounds in weight since they last saw him which made everyone cheer.

Overall, Al Boogie was just as happy as he could be to be moving forward and on such an iconic country music legend’s team. Al Boogie gave Reba a big ol’ hug before leaving the stage and man are we excited to see more of his singing!

As for McEntire’s team this season, while one might expect a full-fledged country lineup, it appears that her team is diverse in terms of genre. She expressed that, contrary to her initial expectation of forming a purely “country” team, she ended up with a group representing various musical genres.

“I kinda thought, when I’d get on The Voice, I’d have my ‘country’ team,” McEntire said, according to NBC. “But what I have been drawn to is an eclectic group. I’ve got different genres; they’re unique in their own way — so may the best ‘voice’ win!”
