In 1996, the world was introduced to conjoined twins Abby and Brittany Hensel when they appeared on The Oprah Winfrey Show.
Who are Abby and Brittany Hensel?
Abby and Brittany were born to parents Patty and Mike Hensel on March 7, 1990 in Carver County, Minnesota. They are dicephalic parapagus twins, which means they have two heads joined to a single torso.
Each girl has their own heart, stomach, spine, lungs, and spinal cord. Abby controls the right arm and leg, while Brittany controls the left arm and leg.
When they were born, their parents decided against separation surgery, as it was too dangerous. Doctors told them at the time that both girls would not survive.
Abby and Brittany gave an interview to The Learning Channel in 2006 and spoke about how they navigate their lives playing sports, going to school, and having a social life. They also expressed their desire to date, get married, and have children one day.
They later starred in the TLC reality show Abby & Brittany for one season. At the end of the show, both women had graduated from college with degrees in education.
Since 2012, we haven’t heard much from the conjoined twins…until now!
In an exciting surprise, TODAY has found out through public records that Abby has married a man named Joshua Bowling, a US Army veteran. He went to school to be a nurse and according to his Facebook page, is currently the Director of Nursing Service at Woodbury Senior Living in Woodbury, Minnesota.
Abby and Brittany have shared wedding photos on their joint Facebook page, and Josh has shared photos of them and his daughter from a previous relationship on his page.
Abby’s desire to become a wife has come true following her wedding to Josh in 2021.
According to Facebook posts written by Josh’s mother, Josh and Abby got engaged in June 2021 surrounded by family, and were married on November 13th the same year.
