Colt Ford Says He’s Going To Be “Healthier Than [He’s] Ever Been” After Suffering A Near-Fatal Heart Attack Earlier Last Year

In April 2024, Colt Ford’s busy life of performing and touring came to a sudden halt when he suffered a heart attack right after getting off stage. The 55-year-old was found unconscious on his tour bus and rushed to the hospital.

Ford later shared that he had flatlined twice before receiving a 10-hour emergency surgery. Miraculously, he survived, and doctors placed three stents in his heart.

He has also faced other significant health struggles in recent years. In 2021, he revealed that he underwent surgery for eye cancer, which was successful, and he recovered well. However, in 2023, he was diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis, an incurable autoimmune disease.

Over the past 9 months, Ford has dedicated his time to better his health. So much so, that the country singer-songwriter recently shared that he has lost 60 pounds. In an interview with PEOPLE, Ford opened up about changing his lifestyle.

The “Farm Life” singer shared with the outlet that he realized he had reached a turning point when his wife offered to take him to Waffle House for his birthday last August. He said he declined, not feeling like eating that type of food anymore.

“That’s when I knew I had won. I broke the habit,” he said.

Despite going through a near-death experience, Ford says he now views it as a “blessing” that gave him the push to make positive changes in his life.

“I’m going to be healthier than I’ve ever been,” he stated. “I was a terrible eater.”

He’s now focused on making better choices than he has in the past. Instead of reaching for unhealthy fried foods he often ate, he’s choosing healthier options.

“I’ve changed everything. If I go by Whataburger, I’ll eat a grilled chicken sandwich. I don’t do all the fries and stuff,” he says. “McDonald’s used to be my s*** and I loved it but I haven’t even craved it.”

Ford is also incorporating regular exercise into his routine. He says that his wife, Megan, bought him a treadmill.

“I can get on the treadmill, if the TV’s on, next thing you know, I’m like, ‘Oh, s—, I walked eight miles,'” he said.

Colt Ford Recently Announced His Return To Touring

Although he hasn’t fully recovered from his severe heart attack last year, Ford announced that his health has improved enough for him to return to performing regularly. He shared on social media in January that he’s heading back on tour.

“The devil couldn’t keep me down, baby!” Ford said in the video message. “I’ll see y’all on the road.”

Colt Ford will be traveling to 13 different cities starting in March. He will tour until the middle of summer, when his last scheduled show takes place in Princeton, Indiana.
